Background of the Study: Child abuse is a pervasive issue with long-lasting physical, emotional, and psychological effects on victims (Okereke et al., 2024). In Benue State, like many other regions, children are often subjected to various forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, leading to profound psychological trauma (Ogunbanjo & Olutayo, 2023). Children who experience abuse often suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions, which require specialized care and intervention.

Nurses are essential in the management of child abuse victims, providing both immediate medical care and long-term psychological support. Nurse-led interventions, such as trauma-informed care, counseling, and family support programs, have been shown to help reduce psychological trauma in child abuse victims. These interventions not only address the immediate physical health needs but also help in stabilizing the emotional and psychological well-being of the victims (Harris et al., 2025). However, the implementation of such interventions in Benue State hospitals has not been fully explored, and there is a need for research into their effectiveness.

This study aims to evaluate the effect of nurse-led interventions in reducing psychological trauma in child abuse victims in Benue State hospitals, assessing the types of interventions used and their outcomes.

Statement of the Problem: Child abuse continues to be a serious issue in Benue State, with many victims suffering from psychological trauma that often goes untreated or inadequately addressed. Nurses play a crucial role in providing interventions that can help mitigate the psychological effects of abuse. However, the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions in reducing psychological trauma in child abuse victims has not been fully investigated in the context of Benue State. This study seeks to evaluate the impact of these interventions on the psychological well-being of child abuse victims.

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To assess the effectiveness of nurse-led interventions in reducing psychological trauma in child abuse victims in Benue State hospitals.
  2. To evaluate the types of nurse-led interventions used in addressing psychological trauma in child abuse victims.
  3. To identify barriers to the implementation of effective nurse-led interventions for child abuse victims in Benue State hospitals.

Research Questions:

  1. How effective are nurse-led interventions in reducing psychological trauma in child abuse victims in Benue State hospitals?
  2. What types of nurse-led interventions are used in addressing psychological trauma in child abuse victims?
  3. What barriers do nurses face in implementing effective interventions for child abuse victims in Benue State hospitals?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. Nurse-led interventions significantly reduce psychological trauma in child abuse victims in Benue State hospitals.
  2. Trauma-informed care and counseling are the most effective nurse-led interventions for reducing psychological trauma in child abuse victims.
  3. Lack of training and inadequate resources are significant barriers to the implementation of effective nurse-led interventions for child abuse victims in Benue State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on evaluating nurse-led interventions aimed at reducing psychological trauma in child abuse victims in Benue State hospitals. Limitations include challenges in obtaining consent from victims and their guardians due to the sensitive nature of child abuse cases.

Definitions of Terms:

  • Nurse-led interventions: Initiatives and programs designed and implemented by nurses to address specific health concerns or conditions.
  • Psychological trauma: Emotional and psychological harm caused by experiences of abuse, leading to conditions such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety.
  • Child abuse: Any form of physical, emotional, or sexual harm inflicted upon a child.
